The idea around whether or not you have to take dance lessons with your significant other for your first dance is seemingly controversial. Some say it’s a must, some say to save your money and not bother. But is it truly necessary?

Time Commitment

After you get engaged, all the planning begins. From the venue, to the caterer, all the way down to what color and font you want to have on your invites. Planning the wedding of your dreams is incredibly time consuming even if you do hire an Event Coordinator. Not to mention everyday life on top of that. Would you have time to add weekly dance lessons on top of your already busy schedules? If you decide to pursue dance lessons, be sure you have the time to dedicate to it in order to make it worth your while. If you're too busy and don’t have the time, or decide to not make the time, then maybe it isn’t truly necessary enough for you as a couple. If you do have the time and energy to put into it, then maybe it will be worth it after all.

Before getting too carried away with dance lessons, ensure that you have added these lessons into your wedding budget. Do your research and look around for the best dance studio pricing option for you and your partner. If none of those options work but you still want dance lessons, maybe learning something from YouTube would be a good trade off. If you’re still on the fence about whether or not they truly are necessary, ask yourself and your partner if you care that your dance is made up on the spot, or just swaying here and there with maybe the occasional spin if you’re trying to be fancy. If the answer is no, then it definitely does not seem necessary. If the answer is yes, then either figure out if you’re good dancers already, or need lessons to look good on the dance floor. Good dancers on the spot, probably don’t need lessons unless you want them. Those who are not good, may find them necessary as long as there is room made in the budget for it.

As long as you and your significant other can acknowledge whether or not you need lessons for your first dance, you should be able to determine whether or not they are really necessary. If necessary, just ensure the budget includes that, shop around for the best price, and both be committed to seeing it through. If unnecessary, then you should really just focus on which song will work best for the both of you to get into it and move on that dance floor.
