Welcome to The Desenberg blog! The Desenberg is a wedding and events venue located in downtown Kalamazoo, MI. We categorize our events by either weddings, corporate events, or social events. Of course weddings are self explanatory. That could be ceremonies, receptions, or both together. Either way, those will land under our wedding category. Corporate events are those associated with a business. Such as a meeting, conference, or the like. So everything else not mentioned above is typically going to fall under the social event umbrella.
What is a social event? A social event is a broadly categorized event that is primarily not associated with a corporation, business, or an actual wedding. These events can range from bridal showers, to retirement parties, birthday parties, baby showers, and more! Bridal showers can feel like they may be categorized under weddings. However, it is not an actual wedding. Therefore, we place it under our social event category. Similarly, retirement parties seem as though they may be under the corporate umbrella. However, retirement parties are often held with the family and friends of the retiree. Which is not often covered by the business or corporation itself. If the event is not paid for or held by the corporation or business, it will be put under the social category. So retirement parties could potentially sway either way. It just depends on who is covering the costs and signing the contract.
So again, a social event is one that is not under the other two event category umbrellas. It’s where the other diverse events are caught and held under. If you are ever wondering when navigating The Desenberg website, or other event websites, and wonder if your event is considered a social event, consider the categories offered. Is it a wedding? Is it an event hosted and paid for by a company, business, or corporation? If the answer is no to both of these, then it’s very highly likely to be social. If yes to one of those, then perhaps it’s not a social event after all.
